Unraid 4.4. Hard Drives will not recognize

Featured Replies

A friend suggested I use unRAID to setup my storage center for media use.

I am successfully getting it to boot up and can access it from another computer via the browser.

However I can NOT for the life of me get the hard drives to recognize.  The bios has no problem seeing them but unRAID doesn't.  During the boot up process it does hang at this prompt and eventually errors:

sata1.00: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

sata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)

sata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x4)

It does this 3 times (assuming I guess because I have 3 new hard drives)

And then it goes into a bunch of identical errors switching between 1.5 and 3.0 gbps

I have tried changing the bios to AHCI.

I've tried different versions of unRAID.

I've flashed my MB to latest version.

I've checked the device tab and can not choose anything under parity device or device 1 or 2.

System:

Asus A8V-MX

Samsung 1TB (x3)

If there is ANY information I need to provide, please let me know.  I really have scoured the forums and internet for a solution and although I've found similar posts I am still unable to resolve this.

Thank you for any assistance.

APIC error on CPU0: 08(08)

APIC error on CPU1: 08(08)

The above repeating pair of lines is obviously wrong.  I've never seen them before, so can't advise why it's doing it.  I suspect you are going to have to find the right boot option or options, to get this motherboard to work.  See the Boot Codes wiki page.  The first one I would try is noapic, then nolapic, and then combinations of the various boot options.

... I've been doing some Googling, and just found that pci=nomsi worked for some users with your board, with similar hard drive identification issues, so try it first.  I added it to the Boot Codes page.

Well, after figuring out what you were talking about (configuring the config file and not options on the motherboard) you were dead on correct.  That one little line of pci=nomsi inserted into the config on my usb did the trick.  It came right up without a hitch.

Just want to say thank you for looking into this and taking the time to find a solution for me.  It's always appreciated when users from a community (especially when you are new) are helpful.  Thanks again RobJ.

You are very welcome.

I have rarely responded when thanked or complimented, not very good at responding, feel sometimes like an alien learning to simulate normal earthling responses.  But I have to say that I have really appreciated the nice comments I have received, yours and a number of others, both private and public, directly and indirectly (as in the 'Please read this' thread), and been very impacted by them, find them better than money!

I think I can speak for all of those who contribute help, that a little thanks and appreciation is very welcome.  It represents the very best of the community spirit.
