January 6, 200917 yr While reading and writing on my unraid pro server 4.4-beta2 and 4.4 pro server I noticed that max network speed is 100mbit even though my onboard card and network supports 1000mbits. I tried to change it by using ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg on ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off Nothing helped. Here's my network info Settings for eth0: Supported ports: [ MII ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 100Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: MII PHYAD: 1 Transceiver: external Auto-negotiation: on Supports Wake-on: g Wake-on: d Link detected: yes driver: forcedeth version: 0.61 firmware-version: bus-info: 0000:00:08.0 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1A:4D:84:8C:8D inet addr:192.168.1.7 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:263604 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:142007 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:351868178 (335.5 MiB) TX bytes:59813984 (57.0 MiB) Interrupt:222 Base address:0x2000 Module Size Used by md_mod 52428 2 sata_nv 19976 3 forcedeth 45072 0 amd74xx 8584 0 [permanent] ide_core 85108 1 amd74xx libata 126816 1 sata_nv
January 6, 200917 yr Have you checked your network cables? Are they cat5e or cat 6 nework cables? Cheers, Matt
January 6, 200917 yr The speed is negotiated by the controller based on what it sees on the connected cable. Did you try a different cable? (It might have a bad connection on one end reducing its ability to handle the higher speed) Is the cable Cat5e, or Cat6? It needs to be to get 1000MB speeds? (Cat5 is not enough for 1000Mbit speeds, need at least cat5e) Are the connectors on the cable correctly wired? (There are two different "standards" for RJ45 connectors, one for telephone use, the other for LAN use. You must have the correct "standard" to get the 1000Mbit speed) If you put the connectors on the ends of the cable yourself, are the conductor pairs twisted all the way into the connector? ( Even one-half-inch of non-twisted wire could reduce its ability to handle higher-speed connections.) Is the router/switch on the other end "really" 1000Mb capable? (perhaps it is limiting the throughput) Can you try a different port on it? perhaps one of its ports is slower speed. Joe L.
January 6, 200917 yr Author Thank you Joe and Biggy You guys were correct. It was the cable. I changed it and now its blazing fast. Thank you guys
