January 15, 200917 yr I decided to replace one of the drives in my array with a bigger one I had lying around... simple right? 1. stop array 2. shutdown array 3. unplug the 750G drive 4. plug in the new 1TB drive 5. turn on machine 6. check "the box" and start the array Here's where the problem is.. The 1TB drive seems to have errors.. It tries to rebuild the drive but can't complete because of errors.. after about 2 mins it stops completely.. OK I decide I'm going to shut down the array and put the old one back.. NOOOPE now the array says "Replacment disk is too small." and i am stuck.. Is there any way to get it back to the way it was or am I now forced to buy a larger drive and do a rebuild?
January 15, 200917 yr Yes there is. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Make_unRAID_Trust_the_Parity_Drive%2C_Avoid_Rebuilding_Parity_Unnecessarily Make sure you let the parity check finish. Don't be too surprised by some sync errors early on in the parity check. Remember that sync errors are self correcting. Good luck! (BTW, many thanks to RobJ for taking the time to document this and add so much to the wiki!)
January 15, 200917 yr Many thanks to Tom for giving us this procedure! It has been used a lot. I know in my first months of unRAID, fighting with a bad motherboard, how I longed for a procedure like this. I kept having to rebuild either the parity drive or a data drive.
