January 29, 200917 yr Hi All, Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I had a 4.4.2 "free" server running that performed as expected 2x1TB (1 parity) 1x400GB Upgraded to PRO Added 2gb memory (on the supported list for my MB) 1x1TB 1x400GB 1x400GB cache disk Now read/write <2MBs Parity seems normal around 70,000KBS Before backing out changes etc I figured I would post a syslog in case someone could see a problem. Thanks
January 29, 200917 yr Where are you seeing that speed? It looks like a parity check or build might be in progress.
January 29, 200917 yr Author Where are you seeing that speed? It looks like a parity check or build might be in progress. No parity or build going on. (well that I can see from the web interface) There was one going on during the syslog I sent but that was AFTER seeing those sppeds repeatedly. I stated the parity check to check the speed and figured I would let it run I see that speed trying to copy to or from the unraid in Vista and 2000 I have read about problems with Vista and speed but the exact same transfers were running normally with the "Free" version. Thanks
January 29, 200917 yr There are no hints of problems in your syslog. So long as you did not test performance after 6:33 AM when you started the parity check, I see no reason for slow speeds. You should check the Improving unRAID Performance page for ideas, and the Best of the Forums, Solutions to Common Problems section for Vista performance help. One small suggestion, the kernel is seeing 2 IDE channels, so it would be better to move the second IDE drive (the Cache drive) from the secondary connection on the same cable as Disk 2 to a second IDE cable, as the Master or Cable Select, with a jumper change.

Thanks, Maybe a problem then as all drives are SATA. I will check further in the bios and see if there is a setting messed up.
January 30, 200917 yr Author Found a setting in bios called "combined" changed it and now all drives show as ahci. Unfortunatly no help though still seeing 1mbs speeds.
January 30, 200917 yr Found a setting in bios called "combined" changed it and now all drives show as ahci. Unfortunatly no help though still seeing 1mbs speeds. Can you take a screenshot of something that shows that you are getting 1MB/sec speed? Are you copying a file and using a stopwatch? At that speed a 1G fille would take >15 minutes to copy from the server. Have you tried copying files on the unRAID server itself? If you are getting normal performance within unRAID and bad performance from Vista, knowing that would help to narrow the issue. Are the trial version and the prod version both the same version of unRAID, or did you do the trial with an older version and then move to a new version with the upgrade?

Well I played with it some more last night and this morining. Removed all the new drives I added and then added just the parity drive and speed was good. Added my 1TB speed was good Added the last 400GB drive this morning. < 1mbs. Seems it was a bad drive. Swapped the drive and started the clear before leaving for work so I will now tonight. Just to finish answering it was the same flash and version with free and pro. I just installed the key. Thanks for your help.

It could just be you have it set to run in SATA I mode if it is a SATA II drive. But even jumpered I don't see why it would run so slow.
January 30, 200917 yr Author No the drive was running at 3.0GB jumpers were previously removed. Anyway no big deal I have a few of the 400's left over from some upgrades at work.
January 30, 200917 yr Author All's well that ends well. Replacing the drive did the trick. 45-50mbs or so read now. Thanks all
