video passthough, pci-e and onboard

Featured Replies

following on from a previous thread - http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33003.0 im in the process of replacing my motherboard to give me the ability to do this (boards i have in mind are in the other thread)

they all have onboard graphics and at least 1 pci-e slot

my question is can i use the onboard graphics to show the unraid console and then pass through the pci card to a windows hvm? i ask as surely when the pci card is inserted it overrules the onboard and unraids console will come up on that?

im not aiming to play games or anything, just the abilty to have a windows vm useable from the front of the box

thanks in advance

Should work just like you mentioned. You should be able to select the primary graphics device in the Bios as the onboard if it defaults to the pci-e.

Ok, perfect. My last board had no onboard graphics, I can't remember the last time I even used a boards onboard graphics. I've always had a decent graphics card, so thought it was best to ask

I do this with my setup and use the CPU graphics for the HOST and my ATI GPU for my VM.
