SteamOS or Steam

Featured Replies

The idea is to begin dialogue about Steam gaming or PC gaming in general in a VM environment.

So now that I have built this new fandangly sevrer with the specs in my signature I was thinking of adding a Steam VM either Linux or Windows; preferably Linux as I have spent alot of time purging my home of Windows.

Can I assume I can just add a higher end graphics card and run cat6 to HDMI to my TV?  Other concern is how far will a wireless controller connection travel as my server is one floor down.

I don't know what the receiver for the wireless controller is, but you may want to run an extension cable if it's USB

Sent from a mobile device, sorry for any typos.

Kryspy,

Did you have much luck in this endeavor?  I too would like to give Steam OS a try.  I work with virtuals at work all the time however I'm a software not a hardware guy so I've not ran a Type 1 before.

It appears some AMD cards and server motherboards can now get directly accessed from virtual guest OS. Seems like Steam OS might pair well to efficiently pass the video stream to clients.  http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_VGA_Passthrough_Tested_Adapters

If you've had any success or found any good information I'd love to see it.
