March 2, 200917 yr Reading the instructions on registering my copy of Unraid I've got a question about this step (only step ) Registration Keys are bound to the GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) of your USB Flash device. Open the Management Utility in your browser and click the Devices page. Using your mouse, select the Flash GUID value displayed there (exactly 27 characters), and copy/paste into the form below. Example GUID: 058F-6387-0000-0000B65F1E82 I've found a "Device Class guid" listed in the detailed properties of my USB key. It's {4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002bXXXXXX} Now looking above it says I should be using a 27 character GUID. This is 32 characters long. The example is 24 characters long. Is this the right ID? Do I use: All 32 Characters as listed Only the last 27 characters as requested in text Only the last 24 characters as the example shows Any of the above with brackets or without brackets? I'm guessing I use all 32 characters with out brackets. But I wanted to check before I hit 'buy' on a form that specifically says check your GUID carefully no refunds.
March 2, 200917 yr Follow this link, then click the link titled "Locate your USB GUID". Other ways of getting your GUID are not recommended. This will also make sure your flash boots on your hardware and recognizes your drives.
March 2, 200917 yr I was curious to know where you got that Class GUID, and went looking, really had to dig, found it using SIW. That Windows GUID or any of its component parts have no relation whatsoever with the Flash GUID used by unRAID, which is synthesized by the Linux kernel from the Vendor code, Product code, and Serial number retrieved from the flash drive's firmware. You can use Microsoft's UVCView tool (USB inspector) to see the actual flash codes and ID's. I did notice that the SIW page included the Device ID, which had the actual flash Serial number as the last part with possibly the Product code preceding it, and a Hardware ID that had the Product code at the end of it, but the Vendor code was nowhere to be found. So you could *almost*, but not quite, generate an unRAID flash GUID from this page. Possibly useful, since the Serial number appears here, you could verify that it does not end in all zeroes, which would be unusable in unRAID. This is a case where you knew too much for your own good! No shortcuts! Get back in line with us ordinary folks!
