Has anyone figured out a way to manage their ESXi setup from a Chromebook? It looks like the vSphere Web Client is really slick, but unfortunately not included with the free version. I've tried a couple Android apps without any luck as well.

the vSphere web client works very well but you are correct it's a no go with free version.

 

Here are some other options (not great but options none the less)

 

- Use Chrome RDP to remote to another windows box on your LAN

- Use Chrome RDP to remote to a small windows guest on your ESXi

- Install VirtualBox and create a Windows VM (believe you need to install linux first)

I actually ended up utilizing both the second and third option.

 

I patched my 5.0 ESXi installation to fix the VM autostart issue and have Chrome RDP running on a Win7 VM.

 

Also, after reading about crouton for Chromebooks, I installed Ubuntu 14.04. Within Ubuntu I was able to (not very easily) install VirtualBox. I now have a Windows XP virtual machine that I can boot to manage my vSphere Center.

 

It ended up being a really round-a-bout way to do it, but it's been working great!
