Transfering Existing Data Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys

I'm pretty excited to set up my first unRAID system.  It will be used primarily for streaming movies and backing up my two computers.

I have a bunch of my ripped movies already stored on a 4-bay USB array.  The drives in the USB array are ntfs formatted.

My "plan" is to set up my array with a 2gb parity and 2x 1gb or 1.5gb data drives.  Is it possible to pull the drives from from USB array and put them in the unRAID, transfer the data via SATA (speed!!) to the unRAID data drives, and then format the drives from the USB array for use in the unRAID?

If this feasible?

Thanks all

Jim

yes.

Install the unMENU add-on and you can easily mount and copy data from your NTFS drives that are not yet part of the array to the drives that are in your array.

It allows you to mount and then share on the lan your drive that are attached, but not part of the array.  You can even plug them in as USB drives (they will transfer data slower than native SATA, but it might be fast enough)
