April 26, 200917 yr Hello! I am attempting to convert an older Dell PowerEdge 1800 (PE1800) to an unRAID server. I am able to successfully boot into unRAID, but I do not see any drives there that I can assign. The PE1800 has a CERC 1.5/6ch SATA controller card. The drives in the array configuration utility are set as individual "volumes" (rather than using a RAID configuration). I see 6 individual arrays show up while the computer is booting so the computer does appear to be correctly seeing them. Have I missed a step, or is the CERC SATA controller not compatible with unRAID? I have attached a syslog in case anyone needs to see it. Thanks!

But wait for more information from a skilled member to confirm.
April 26, 200917 yr Author Thanks for taking a look at the syslog jupilerman. Also, another thing I found googling is that Linux may need the aacraid driver to read the drives. I'm not sure about this, but I wanted to add this in case this makes sense to anyone (sorry I'm not familiar with Linux).
April 27, 200917 yr I would say it is not currently compatible. The Hardware Compatibility page is not definitive, but fairly complete. If you do locate the correct driver(s) for it, and Tom includes them in a future unRAID release, it is still possible it won't be compatible, if these drivers do not provide IDE or ATA device symbols for the drives. I say that because of your comments that this card provides the drives as 'volumes'. I'm not sure it is worth the effort.
April 27, 200917 yr Author Ok, thanks RobJ. I'll get a new card instead. Anyone know of any places to find the Adaptec 1430SA for cheap that everyone here seems to recommend? I found it for about $100 each, but I need two. The PCI-X 8 port SuperMicro version is about $100, but from the forums I read that PCI-X is slower and will cause the parity checks to be slower.
April 27, 200917 yr Author Also, does the Adaptec 1430SA fit into a standard port? The Adaptec website at http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/products/Controllers/Hardware/sata/entry/AAR-1430SA/ indicates that is has a "Low-profile form factor" and I wanted to ensure that it will fit into a full size area. Thanks.
