February 7, 201511 yr 4.7-lost ethernet connection out of no where..... I went to access a folder on the unraid box and I couldn't connected to it. So, I did ctrl-alt-del on the unraid and reboot it and no luck. I reset my router and no luck. My ip address on my unraid box has always been 192.168.1.150 Well, I can't ping or connect to it. So, I verified my network.cfg file and it still looks good. # Generated settings: USE_DHCP=no IPADDR=192.168.1.150 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.1.40 DHCP_KEEPRESOLV=no DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.40 DNS_SERVER2= DNS_SERVER3= If I go on my router I don't see the mac address or an ip address of the unraid box assigned. The only think I have changed yesterday was I updated the bios to reflect the current time. I checked the bios and it says onboard network card is still enabled. The network cable connected to the unraid is good, because I disconnected it and connected a laptop to it with the wifi off and I was able to connect to the internet. So, does anyone have any ideas of why my network connection has just dropped off like this? Onboard network card stopped working? The latest syslog is attached. syslog-20150206-131414.zip
February 7, 201511 yr Author I ran another ethernet cable over to the unraid and that didn't help either. By far I am not a Linux expert, so bare with me. I ran an ifconfig eth0 See attachment for the results... I just checked the network lights on the back of the motherboard (ASUS M4A785-M) and I don't see either of the lights by the ethernet cable port coming on at all. Guessing the onboard ethernet maybe died?
February 7, 201511 yr Author Well, I have no explanation for it but I did the old clear the cmos and that did the trick. "Clear CMOS" (or "CLRTC" on an Asus board). CLRTC Procedure Note all your current BIOS settings Shut down the computer > remove the power cord. Remove the 3v battery. Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3. Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board. Put the CLRTC jumper back on 1-2. Replace the battery > replace the power cord > boot. Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.
