False Overheating Errors

Featured Replies

I just did a fresh install of unRaid v6 on my server and obviously it started to do a parity sync that I manually stopped. However, in the midst of the process, I started getting "DISK OVERHEATING" notifications (Temp>77F) for every one of my disks in the entire array. However, on the console (emhttp) I am not seeing any such overheating. I took a look at my server and all I did was installed new RAM and a new SSD to use as a SNAP-mounted disk for my VMs.

Has anyone seen this behavior and know what is causing it?

Here is the error log (/var/log/syslog) when the overheating notices are sent. Is this a problem with BTRFS?

This tends to be a problem with the temp and over temp settings, on the first runs after upgrading to v6.  Basically, it seems to be comparing Fahrenheit temps with Celsius thresholds.  Usually, doing something like going into the Display Settings and toggling the Celsius/Fahrenheit switch, then clicking the Apply button seems to fix it.

To help me improve the Upgrade guide, can you tell me what (if any) changes you made in the temp settings?

Hi Rob,

I figured it out. Thank you.

I went to the Settings --> Display Settings --> Temperature unit --> and changed the setting from [CELSIUS] to [FAHRENHEIT].

So far I have not gotten any further error messages. I think that may have done the trick, although it's a very very simple fix... Hopefully.

I'm trying to figure out why only some people see this, but most don't.  Do you recall making any changes to any temp setting, prior to this?

I just upgraded to latest beta today (6.0-beta15), and this started for me as well, I also fix it by changing the setting from [CELSIUS] to [FAHRENHEIT].

No, I didn't even touch the temperature settings.

Only change I did immediately after installing the new unRaid is just setting the NTP servers to the North American ones.
