Documentation Suggestion

Featured Replies

A suggestion and a question.

First, the suggestion.  Is it possible to modify the existing "Add one or more disks" section to add some additional information?  I didn't realize until I'd been poking around the Server Management Utility (SMU) for about 10-15 minutes that I needed to:  a)  stop the array (Command Area/Stop), b) assign the disk devices (Devices/Disk Devices) for both parity and disk1 (disk2 being unassigned), c) start the array (Command Area/Start), and then d) format the array (Command Area/Format).  I make this suggestion because the current documentation fails to mention the process of assigning devices (that I could find) and it implies -- at least to me -- that the drives will be formatted automatically on startup, which my system did not do (i.e, I had to explicitly command SMU to format disk1).

Now the question.  In my two drive setup, I explicitly assigned both the parity and disk1 devices.  But after starting the array, SMU would only allow me to format disk1 (i.e., there was no menu choice).  So...should I have formatted the parity device, and if so, how?

Thanks.
