sakh1979
I just got a new 2tb drive, ran a full cycle of pre-clear script. The script said the drive was good, so I replaced my dying drive with the new one. Now I am seeing this in the SMART output: SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 10 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 114 100 006 Pre-fail Always - 82266888 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0003 098 098 000 Pre-fail Always - 0 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 7 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 010 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 100 253 030 Pre-fail Always - 217594 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 46 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0013 100 100 097 Pre-fail Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 1 184 End-to-End_Error 0x0032 100 100 099 Old_age Always - 0 187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 188 Command_Timeout 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 189 High_Fly_Writes 0x003a 068 068 000 Old_age Always - 32 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 0x0022 073 060 045 Old_age Always - 27 (Lifetime Min/Max 26/40) 191 G-Sense_Error_Rate 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 8 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 027 040 000 Old_age Always - 27 (0 26 0 0) 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0010 100 100 000 Old_age Offline - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x003e 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 Is the drive bad? archedraft
Is the drive a seagate? Quote Link to comment
sakh1979
Yes! the drive is Seagate 2TB NAS drive. Quote Link to comment
RobJ
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 114 100 006 Pre-fail Always - 82266888 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 100 253 030 Pre-fail Always - 217594 Is the drive bad? The "Reallocated_Sector_Ct" is still zero, but the "Raw_Read_Error_Rate" and "Seek_Error_Rate" are high. What should I do. The SMART attributes require some experience to read them correctly. With the 2 error rates you mention, you never look at the RAW number, as it's strictly a manufacturers field. What you look at are the VALUE numbers, which here are 114 and 100, both perfect. (Actually 114 means better than perfect, but ...) The fact that the Raw_Read_Error_Rate has a RAW number that's non-zero is always indicative of a Seagate drive. The other manufacturers hide their values, put zeroes here. That doesn't mean a thing. Quote Link to comment
SSD
189 High_Fly_Writes 0x003a 068 068 000 Old_age Always - 32 Not trying to unnecessarily raise concerns, but 32 high fly writes on a drive this new is a little high. In comparison, I have several Seagates with high fly writes in the single digits, and increase very very occasionally by one. My research indicates that these can be caused by excessive vibration. I would monitor this going forward. If values rise more than a couple a month, I would suggest looking at ways to reduce vibration. If they stay in this range I'd say you are fine.
