test server to unraid 6.1.3 - missing IDE drives

i put together an test server with some older hardware before switching my actual server to V6.

the old mobo is an asrock 939 dual-sata2 with an amd x3800 processor.

after some network issues, i got a NIC card and had v5 working just fine.

so i figured i bump it up to the latest and try to setup newznab on v6. the whole point of this test server.

but when i boot up to v6.1.3 my ide drives are missing from the assign screen.

i upgraded with a format and a clean install, except my *cfg files.

drives show up in the bios and the old V5. tried the slave ide slot, no success either.

ideas?

That's a really old board!  And a slow NIC too.  There's an IDE controller at 00:12.0 on the PCI bus, but it's not being recognized at all.  Can you provide a v5 syslog, to see what's assigned to it, what driver it needs?  It identifies itself as below (no kernel driver associated with it)

00:12.0 IDE interface [0101]: ULi Electronics Inc. M5229 IDE [10b9:5229] (rev c7)

Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Motherboard IDE (PATA) [1849:5229]

A crazy idea, try v6.1.2 from the LimeTech download page.  It contains some very old firmware not in 6.1.3, perhaps something for your board.  You might also check for a BIOS update for the board, not likely when it's that old though.

yeah everything is old lol. i just scraped what i had around to try and make newznab work on 6.x before switching my main setup. mobo does have the latest bios on it, as i already checked that myself.

i tried 6.1.12 and also didnt work.

noticed i had one of the older 6.x version lying around in my downloads folders, so i tried that also. but any 6.x version is missing the ide drives.

v5.0.6 still shows them without issues.

i tossed in the two syslogs below.

i think if nothing else. i have another 36GB old raptor hard drive kicking around. i may be able to use that for a data disk and do some tests without too many issues.

I can't tell if a workaround triggered by the legacy quirks makes the controller unusable.  I also don't know if it's a problem with a missing driver, or a problem with 64 bit, or it's just left behind by current Linux kernels.  As you can see above, even in 5.0.6 it was a non-standard IDE controller.  You can email LimeTech support (with a link to this thread) and request 'alim15x3', and he can check to see whether it's been inadvertently dropped, or is no longer available.

But is it worth the effort?  This board cannot possibly be recommended for unRAID, with a near obsolete IDE controller, a 100mbps ethernet port, and ONLY ONE SATA port!  I imagine you can find in someone's trash a more capable board!  (My apologies if you have a sentimental attachment to this board.)

If there are supposed to be more SATA ports, they are disabled or not working.

yeah, im with you. definitely not worth it.

like i said i'll scrape another sata drive for my testing. the mobo does have 2 more sata ports but even if they dont work. i have a pci card for sata ports. and i somehow have two of these mobo's lying around. i think they were on sale or something back in the day lol.

thank you for your time Rob. much appriciated.
