September 17, 200916 yr Hi all, I'm quite new to unraid and I've run into a problem that I could use some help with. I'm running unraid server 4.4.2, with a supermicro C2SEA MB, 2gb Ram, Norco 4220 case, a 750 watt pc power & cooling PS, 3 data drives and a parity drive. After about a month of unraid server operating flawlessly, I started having trouble with some of my video files being not playing correctly. I ran a parity check, unraid found errors on disk 1 and took it offline. I reset the server with the intention of re-running the parity check and now the disk with errors shows up as "uninstalled" and the other three disks show up as "missing" on the unraid webgui. When I check the devices tab on the webgui it cannot see any of the drives to reassign them. To troubleshoot I tried using a different SATA cable (reverse breakout cable with SFF8087 and 4x Sata), and I tried moving all four drives to a different backplane but neither of these options have allowed unraid to see any of the disks. I don't have a syslog yet, but will post it shortly.
September 17, 200916 yr Author I don't have a syslog to post - the system refused to boot and wouldn't even post. It looks like this is probably a MB issue. Hopefully the data will still be safe when I replace the MB.
September 17, 200916 yr I don't have a syslog to post - the system refused to boot and wouldn't even post. It looks like this is probably a MB issue. It could be, but is not necessarily a failed motherboard. Disconnect everything you can first and try to boot, including all drives and cards except the video card, and all but one memory card. Then begin adding memory back, then the cards back, then the drives. And if you have another power supply, try dropping it in too. A failed memory chip or addon card or power supply could all hang the system. Even a failed drive is possible, in rare cases. The syslog is most valuable for diagnostic use when captured during the session the problems occur. Unless specifically saved, it is lost after each boot. So while capturing one now may be very helpful in identifying what is working and not working now, it may not be much help in telling us what happened previously. Hopefully the data will still be safe when I replace the MB. The data will move without issue from one system to another, but make sure you have notes or a printout or a screen capture of the device assignments, what drives are assigned what slots, most importantly the parity drive. It is possible though that your hardware issues could have caused a little file system corruption. You can't deal with that until you have a working system though.
