September 17, 200916 yr Hey all, I came home today to find out my unraid box was acting wonky all of a sudden (not sure what happened since last night), anyway, I rebooted the machine only to find out that one of my drives is reported as "red" (I'm guessing this means failed).. the issue however is that it has passed all smart tests, I can read/write to the drive and it's not overheating. My question is how do I get unraid to mark it as green? I've rebooted a few times and it's always marking this drive as red. I've attached my syslog.
For unRAID to mark the drive as "red" it had to have failed when writing to it. Since you did not capture the syslog until after you rebooted, we'll never know the details of the "write" failure. Therefore, even though the SMART report might look good to you, the true cause of the failure is unknown. It could be a loose cable, or a defective drive when it gets warm... or just about any hardware problem. If you just wish to try to put it back on-line, follow the procedure as described here in the wiki: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_do_I_re-enable_a_failed_disk.3F The disk might be fine, or it might fail again... keep an eye on it. You might want to power down and check the cabling to it, just in case it is loose. The re-building of the drive will occur when you press "Start" to start the array. DO NOT Press the button labeled "Restore" as it has nothing to do with restoring data, but sets a new configuration with the currently working drives ans starts a brand new parity calculation as if you never did one before. So... after following the process described in the wiki, press "Start" to start the array and the rebuilding process. Joe L.
