Not sure where to ask, virtualization question regarding processor loads

Featured Replies

Long story short, I am trying to consolidate computer hardware into one computer that can handle two VMs for gaming with VT-d passthrough for the graphics cards, but I don't have any idea of how much of a load that puts on individual cores and how it affects performance. I got inspired by LTT's video, I'm just trying to see how cheap you can go on the single unit and still have at least console level graphics (30-40 fps on something like CS:GO). I was looking at the i5-6400, but I don't know if that would be going too far down. Anyone have any experience/advice on processor load for this sort of application? The processor would basically be split in half, 2 cores and 2 cores. I'm worried it will affect multitasking performance. (unless doing 3 cores/3 cores with two overlapping cores would work better given the lack of hyperthreading.) This is all on paper, while I plan out the build.
