M.2 hdd for cache/cache pool?

Featured Replies

Hi everybody

I'm going to build an Unraid mini-itx machine with the following hardware:

The motherboard has a M.2 slot, would it be possible to use it for cache or as a part in a cache pool?

I apologize in advance if this is a noob question, building my own server is new to me and so is Unraid. I have had a Synology for many years but want to move forward.

AHCI M.2 SSDs work just fine (either PCI-E or SATA).  NVMe M.2 SSDs do NOT work, UnRAID cannot use the drives.

It is rumored that UnRAID 6.2 may support NVMe.

How did the build go? ;D

I wonder if it's possible to use the 6 SATA drives (4 from the mini SAS) and the M.2 at the same time (7 drives total)...

Mattail,

I'm looking at going a similar direction as you are--how's the build working out? Any issues or changes you would make?

As an update, NVMe drives work fine in the 6.2 betas.
