January 16, 201016 yr Hi , I had a problem when I logged on my windows 7 PC , for all my disk share I was needed to type in username & password everytime. Is this a problem that more have ? If so I have a solution to fix this in windows 7 :-)
February 18, 201016 yr Were you waiting for us to throw money? Seriously, we have more and more users probably using Windows 7, and I'm sure there will be some that will appreciate your solution.
February 20, 201016 yr Win7 offers to remember your username and password every time you type them in...just click that little checkbox and you shouldn't ever have to worry about it again. I have yet to do this for the simple reason that I have two user accounts, 'admin' and 'guest'. 'Admin' has full read/write privileges, 'guest' has read-only privileges. The 'guest' account is primarily for my HTPC, my roommate, and any other friends who may bring a laptop over. However, when I leave town I like to sign into my desktop as 'guest' just to ensure that nothing can go wrong while I'm away. If I told Windows to remember my login info, I fear that I would never be able to switch between these two users again. Another problem is that if I'm signed in as one user, the only way to sign out and sign back in as the other user seems to be to restart the computer. It seems like there has to be a better way, but I haven't found it. Anyone know of a trick to sign out from a network share? Of course these are all problems with Windows, not with unRAID.
February 20, 201016 yr Password information is kept specific and separate for each user in Win7. If you log in as Admin and elect to save PW info, but elect to not save PW info for Guest, you can simply 'Switch Users'. Click start button/shutdown (but click the little arrow to bring up options) and you may switch users, logoff, whatever. If you need to see/change/delete PW info - go to User Accounts and select 'manage credentials'. You can change PW info, or delete it entirely if you desire. For example, my unRaid server has user level security enabled. I have a Win7 PC in my office with multiple users accounts (let's say 'Admin' and 'Guest'). When I use the Office PC I log in as 'Admin' and elected to save the Username and PW to connect. I have full access to unRaid without having to enter my credentials (since they are saved). If someone else logs in as 'Guest' the Username and PW is not saved, thus restricting access to unRaid.
February 22, 201016 yr Great info, Rob_Esc. I may have to set that up at some point. I always try to avoid having multiple user accounts in Windows because I remember in the days of WinXP the slowdowns it would cause. Hopefully Win7 is better at handling it.
