February 5, 201016 yr Hey guys So I've decided I don't want / need a cache drive any more. The speed advantage just isn't there with the latest releases and I'd rather use the extra sata port for a data drive. Question is...my server is powered off right now, can I just go ahead and do the hardware swap now, then turn the server back on? Thanks all, Jim

Thanks all, Jim You are normally better off un-assigning the cache drive first, then removing the physical hard disk, but it probably does not matter too much. Instead, you can just edit the config/disk.cfg file and delete the line that says cache=........ It is the equivalent of un-assigning the cache drive. when you subsequently power up, you can stop the array and assign the additional data drive. If it is not pre-cleared you will be faced with a clearing of it when you next start the array. While it clears the drive, the array will be off-line. If you want to avoid a few hours of down-time, pre-clear the drive before adding it. Joe L.

February 5, 201016 yr Author Joe, I woke up this morning to find all data drives spun down and labeled "unformatted". In the Command Area, the only option I have is "Refresh". What do you recommend I do now? Pressing the Refresh button doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks, Jim

The un-formatted just indicates the disks are not mounted. Log onto the system console, or via telnet. type: mount
