March 6, 201016 yr Hi, In the automated process of copying cache to the raid, I'm getting a whole bunch of these errors Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7.00: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x780100 action 0x6 Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7.00: irq_stat 0x08000000 Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7: SError: { UnrecovData 10B8B Dispar BadCRC Handshk } Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7.00: cmd 25/00:00:57:18:a8/00:02:07:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 262144 in Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: res 50/00:00:56:18:a8/00:00:07:00:00/e0 Emask 0x10 (ATA bus error) Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7.00: status: { DRDY } Mar 6 10:05:01 Tower kernel: ata7: hard resetting link Mar 6 10:05:02 Tower kernel: ata7: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Mar 6 10:05:02 Tower kernel: ata7.00: configured for UDMA/33 Mar 6 10:05:02 Tower kernel: ata7: EH complete The cache drive is on a separate 2 change pcie x1 card, with the main array using the motherboard drives. Is this indicative that the pcie card is faulty? The card is a generic JMicron JMB363 based card. Any help most appreciated. Glen.
March 6, 201016 yr The bad CRC (Cyclic Redundancy checksum) Handshake indicates the communications between the disk and the controller is faulty. It could be: A bad/poor quality cable A loose cable A cable picking up noise from another it is tightly coupled to. A bad disk controller (or controller port) A bad disk drive A bad (marginal/noisy) power supply. I'd try a different SATA cable first, then a different port, then go from there. Joe L.
March 6, 201016 yr Author Hi Joe, Thanks for that, given me quite a list to check through Cheers Glen.
