March 7, 201016 yr So I was adding a new 500 WD AAC drive. I had it precleared. I stopped the array and then assigned it. When I did, on the main page it told me "invalid expansion" and I noticed that disk 2 was showing uninstalled. So I unassigned the new drive and still disk 2 shows not installed. I rebooted the server, and same thing. Now this particular drive did this once in my freenas box so I'm now inclined to just get it out of production. My thoughts are to rebuild the data on it to the new 500 gig drive I'm now adding. I've never done this before so want to make sure I don't do anything to lose data. Here is my syslog: http://pastebin.com/ha9Tvx1b What is strange is the disk that unraid isnt seeing is showing up in the syslog: Mar 7 09:51:35 Media02 emhttp: pci-0000:00:11.0-scsi-2:0:0:0 host3 (sdc) ST3320620AS_3QF09KP3 but then shows it as removed: Mar 7 09:51:35 Media02 kernel: md: disk2 removed This all seemed to happen when I tried to add the 500gig AACS drive this morning. I'm running 4.5.3
March 7, 201016 yr Author OK, a little more info. So the disk that the array was not seeing, ST3320620AS_3QF09KP3, now shows up when I stop the array and add it back. Now it appears unraid thinks it is a replaced disk and wants to rebuild it. Not sure what is going on if the disk is failing in any way (never have had unraid report any errors). It just seems weird it seemed to happen when I went to add an additional disk. I'm now noticing a couple other threads of users that seem to have disks go missing after upgrading to 4.5.3. I upgraded to 4.5.3 a few days ago and things have been running fine until this morning. So at this point the array is stopped wondering do I do a rebuild or a restore to get everything at least back to before I tried to add the 500 gig AACS drive.
