March 23, 201016 yr Okay, so everything is working perfectly, drives were precleared, etc. I've got 2 drives in the Unraid box right now, a 2TB for my parity, and a 2TB for my storage. I want to move the data over from my NAS so I can put an additional 1TB drive in there. So here's my question, I already started moving files over with the parity disk assigned (stupid me for not reading ahead), can I now stop the array, unassign the parity disk, move the remaining files, restart the array and let the server create parity overnight? Any issues with this?

March 23, 201016 yr but wouldnt the be slower when you have to do a parity sync all over again in addition to the time it takes to copy?
March 23, 201016 yr but wouldnt the be slower when you have to do a parity sync all over again in addition to the time it takes to copy? Technically, yes. But for what he's doing this time, the copying may require his active involvement the whole time. Then when he's done, he can just go to bed and let the server build the parity overnight. Personally, I wouldn't do it that way though. I'd prefer to know that all the CRCs checked and that it's all protected before I go to bed.
March 23, 201016 yr so its slower and more unsecure, great Not slower. He'll finish the copying faster.
