Resolution issue with ancient video cards

Featured Replies

If I'm using an old video card, like for example my PCI ATI RageXL 8MB, if I boot in to the GUI, whatever resolution unRAID is setting is beyond 1920x1080@60Hz, which is the maximum my monitor can deal with.  It works fine if I use my slightly newer PCI-E Matrox G690, though the resolution is odd on that also, it's not 1920x1080, more like 1280x960 or 1280x800, though it's only a 16MB card too.

Could the resolution be locked to something low if the X server can't get some sensible list of resolutions for the VGA card?

I think this explanation is very useful.
