Disk Errors

Featured Replies

Approximately 3 Weeks I added a fourth disk to my unraid server. It seem like everything was working great until the power went out. I started it back up and and during the parity check it slowed down to 38KB/sec for almost 6hours and there were over 3500 errors on disk 4. It eventually sped back up and finished the parity check with no sync errors. I thought maybe this was a power issue because I had just added the fourth drive. I ordered a new case "a Norco 4220" and a corsair 750watt power supply. I hooked everything up in the case and loaded a new drive that was part of the deal for the Norco 4220. Everything booted up fine and I have been using the array for almost two weeks until I tried to copy a file and it just froze. I checked the main page on unraid and there were 2000 errors on disk4. I am in the middle of running a parity check and I am up to 21000 errors on disk4 and 48 sync errors.

If disk 4 really is bad why has the green ball not turned red?

Can I copy all the files to the blank disk5 and remove disk4 from the array? "I still have plenty of space"

What happened to the file I was transferring? I aborted the transfer.

I can attach the syslog file but I actually have no idea where to find it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brent

Here is the syslog. It looks like it restarted today but I have not touched it in weeks.

You have some serious errors in your syslog.  Best case scenario, a SATA cable is loose. Worst case, a disk is dying.

Powerdown your server (from the web interface), check/reseat your SATA cables, and power cables.

Then power up the server and post a fresh syslog.

I let the server finish the parity check and when it was finished there was 27000 errors on disk 4 and 52 sync errors.

After that was finished I shut it down and moved disk4 to a new bay on the norco 4220.

I restarted the array and have posted a syslog.

Worst case scenario the drive went out. I guess thats not that bad.

I don't see the errors in the new syslog.  Must have been bad cable connection.

Run a parity check now. Expect to see errors due to the problem before.

The second parity check should be without errors. If not, you have a problem again.

Keep an eye on the syslog!  Also, may be a good idea to run a SMART check on your disks.

After restarting I attempted another parity check.

It got to 2% and found 22 sync errors so I just canceled it.

I ordered some new drives and they just showed up today.

Hopefully this will fix the problem.

Side Note: How do I run a smart check?
