Hint: Long IDE Cables..

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been having issues with slowness with my Unraid.. Typical Parity rebuild was occurring at 1.5MB/Sec, and sometimes had read / write issues.

I replaced all of my nice new long IDE cables with old short IDE cables I had around the place, and all of my issues seam to have gone away. Parity rebuild now about 12MB/Sec.

So.. Make sure your IDE cables are as short as possible.

When unraid 1.0 was out this was one thing tom suggested.  Also do not use round ide cables either

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the IDE spec calls out a limit of about 18" and a lot of manufacturers make them a LOT longer.  As they are unshielded and sitting in a hostile environment, sticking with short cables seems smart.
