I got advice on how to update the package for it87, but should I? I have no idea about Linux

I haven't been able to see temperatures or fan speeds since I installed UnRaid. I have 4 PWM fans on the system and would love to actually use them .. and see the temperatures of the CPU. Its been driving me crazy. I posted here and couldn't fix it. I also am in a long drawn out email chain with Gigabyte support on how to fix it.

 

I spent a few days Googling and reading replies, but nothing ever worked. Some of the things I did would freeze my system, so I stopped tinkering. Since then I check a few forums and git every few days to see if someone has a similar problem.

 

I found a similar build by someone who knows what they are doing on the git for IT87 module. https://github.com/groeck/it87/issues/43#issuecomment-327460639 and he was able to fix it.

 

My motherboard is Gigabyte AB350 D3H and his is very similar (in the same family), with the exact same chip readouts from sensor-detect. I asked him how he fixed his, so I could fix mine and he gave me this reply.

@RonGeorge I do a make && make install, then go into /lib/modules/xxxx/drivers/hwmon and do the following:

  1. rm -f it87.ko.xz
  2. xz -9 it87.ko
  3. dracut -f

This will remove the distro provided module, we compress the one we compiled here to be used, and using dracut will update the module included in the initramfs. It's a bit of a pain, but workable.

I use Fedora 26 if that matters - so your instructions may be slightly different.

 

Should I remove the distro distributed with UnRaid and replace it with a new version of IT87? If so, how would I go about downloading it into a temp directory to make && make install that wont mess with the build? 

 

I'm on UR version 6.4.0-rc8q

I am also interested in this. I have the Gigabyte AB350M-D3H and would LOVE to see this answered. Here is my sensors-detect:

Some systems (mainly servers) implement IPMI, a set of common interfaces
through which system health data may be retrieved, amongst other things.
We first try to get the information from SMBIOS. If we don't find it
there, we have to read from arbitrary I/O ports to probe for such
