Migration from ESXi and adding external shares

Featured Replies

I've a lot of VMs on ESXi with centralized storage. It's starting to bottleneck so I'm moving storage locally, problem is I'd have no redundancy using ESXi alone so I thought I'd try unRAID or FreeNAS both having virtualization capabilities.

I'm first trying out unRAID and after setting up the array I noticed there's no obvious options for adding external shares to the unRAID host, I'm guessing there's must be if I need to point it to where I store ISO images, I reread the manual but there's no mention of it. Second, is it possible to migrate my ESXi machines to unRAID? Will I need to convert them? Is there a reverse process?

What about if like unRAID and set up another host? Is there live migration between them? Well, to be honest I didn't have live migration anymore on ESXi since my vCenter license expired and I can't justify the expense anymore but at least offline migration was easy by just unregistering then registering the VMs on another host.

Thanks for your time!
