May 4, 201016 yr newbie question (will assemble my first UnRaid server soon) is it possible to have the following tree structure on ALL disks: ======================== /movies/a/movie-directory/movie /movies/b/movie-directory/movie (and so on, all needed letters) /series/a/series-directory/series /series/b/series-directory/series (and so on, all needed letters) ======================== and use the "user-share" feature and have it all presented in one share as if the contents of all disks were present on one single disk? or will the content of duplicate lower-level directory entries be omitted? (only showing content of movies/a of the first disk, and not the others)
May 4, 201016 yr all levels of duplicated directories will be presented as a combined view, so therefore, the answer to your question is yes, you can organize you data that way the sub-directories are also combined. There is one small downside. When you choose letter "a" to play a movie, all the disks might have to spin up if its files are split between the various disks. Joe L.

I have no trouble with your mentioned downside, I intend to have all my disks spinning continously while the server is running.
May 4, 201016 yr Yes, you can have that. It is only with duplicate files that the file on the first disk appears and the file on the second disk is hidden. Directories all have their contents are displayed. You create a user share called "Movies" and another user share called "Series". Then, when you go to "My Network Places" and pick "tower" or type \\tower (or your server name) into the navigation bar of windows explorer you will find 2 directories called "Movies" and "Series". You then create sub-directories in there called a,b,c,d,e,f....,z and start filling them. These sub-directories will be first created on one disk and then will be created on the other disks as the space is needed. If you are writing to the share then I suggest you use a split level of 2 and just leave the other settings as is. Peter
