Can't access via HTTP or telnet

Featured Replies

changed a few SATA cables and added my last (3rd) IcyDock 5-in-3 bay, only to find TOWER (or "NAS" as I've named it) inaccessible.

ifconfig e0 reports "device not accessible"

Getting flashy lights on the NIC port I've always used (the other port doesn't give flashy lights, but I've not changed anything)

Changed drop lead

powered down, unplugged and pressed power button

re-booted Edimax Router that's doing DHCP

it's not giving a full list of clients it's given IPs to anyway (dodgy?)

flushed the DNS on my PC

set DHCP to NO and given it a fixed 192.168.2.123 (this may still be in the syslog if it stuck)

my workgroup is "bable" but that's been set since in the config since forever. Just tidied up the cables and the power supplies to the disk caddies  :(

Help!

syslog.txt

Looks a lot like the ethernet cable might not be plugged in. (or was damaged in your moves of the server)

I've tried a few now, and ports on the local switch between the tower and the router..

ifconfig e0 reports "error fetching interface information: device not found"

no you were right, a few more leads and a different port and up popped my MAC address on the router's list of leases.

couldn't bear another failed connection so actually read my own Syslog to see if it was the tower's MAC address.

Working. Thanks!!!!

Bloomin 3-4 hours waisted. Should have posted sooner. Still, learnt a few linux commands. might help my XBMC hobby....
