10Mbit connection on a 1000Mbit network

Featured Replies

My network is setup as 100Mbit router -> Gigabit switch -> Desktop(1000); Laptop(100); unRaid(1000).

Unraid usually connects at 1000Mbit so I know my network's fine but since I added two additional hard drives to my array it has been connecting at 10Mbit (I also just upgraded to 4.5.4)

Results of ethtool eth0 shows 10Mbit connection:

root@Tower:~# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
       Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full

Not sure if it helps but, syslog is attached.

I've tried restarting/unplugging without success, what's the best way to troubleshoot this?

syslog_Dease.txt

My first suspicion would be the cable and/or the port on the switch.

I've since done the following with no effect:

changed ports on the switch

restarted the switch

changed ethernet cord (all cabling is cat6)

downgraded to 4.5.3

and a bunch of restarts

I am puzzled.

Long shot, since you'd think you'd know if it had changed, but my BIOS has the option to force the network card to a certain speed... Sounding like a bad NIC. :(

Checked the BIOS, no options regarding LAN other than on/off. The only other thing interesting was that the BIOS only lists the first 4 of 6 drives installed (unraid uses all 6)

All I can think of now is replacing the motherboard, or perhaps just buying a pci NIC...

I bought a pic NIC - Belkin F5D5005

Good news is that my switch shows a gigabit connection (green instead of amber) but I can't see it on the network - http://tower does not work nor does my mapped network drive connect.

I've confirmed that the server indeed does boot up fine, and if I switch the connection to the mobo nic I can access the server @10Mbit.

Any ideas?

Disable the onboard network port in the BIOS.  If that does not do it, then post a syslog.

Works! Thanks Joe.
