Biostar A785GE + AMD Sempron 140 combo deal - $69.98

 

The Sempron 140 we all know and love, so I won't even talk about it.  The Biostar A785GE is good, not great, for unRAID.

 

Upsides:

  • MicroATX (fairly small form factor)
  • GigE
  • Onboard Video

 

Downsides:

  • Only 4 SATA ports
  • Only 1 PCIe x16 slot
  • No other PCIe slots

 

With an 8 port add-on card such as the SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8, you can take this board up to 12 drive support.  However, you can't go past that unless you sacrifice speed and use the slow PCI slots.

 

There's another combo deal that throws in a Rosewill case and 350 W PSU for a total of $99.97:

 

Biostar A785GE + AMD Sempron 140 + Rosewill R103A + Rosewill 350W PSU - $99.97

 

Definitely a good start to a budget unRAID build.
