Darts
Hello, Recently I had some troubles with a cheap SATA2 controller card bought on eBay (Long story here). These troubles pushed me into buying a complete new set of hardware, I was going to keep the case, the power supply and of course the disks. The biggest concern I had is that I was in the middle of a parity upgrade. I feared how unRAID would react in such a drastic change. I had a lot of questions, I read a lot and I decided to trust unRAID on everything. So I bought this set of components : Mobo : Asus P7P55D (7 SATA2 ports on 2 different chips) CPU : Intel core i3 530 RAM : 1*2GB kingston Long story short : Everything went splendid. I had to setup the bios into forcing the USB as a FDD for the stick to be recognized and that was it (thanks erikatcuse for opening the way on that one ) Once i reassigned all the disks to their correct slot the parity rebuild was on its way (labeled as Parity Check however). I also noticed a nice speed boost : before I was between 16 & 35MB/sec. Now I am between 45 and 65 Nearly all my disks are "green", 5400rpm, versions needless to say I am quite happy with these transfer rates. If you are looking for a new motherboard, the ASUS P7P55D series is a good, recommended choice. Link to comment
