All Flash Server

Featured Replies

It's just an Idea but with memory sticks dropping in price and wanting speed over large amounts of storage would it be possible to have an all flash based server?  With the current configuration the PCI bus is the bottleneck would the same hold true for a usb flash server?

Just a thought...

It's certainly possible, especially with the new SATA SSDs (Solid State Disk) like the ones from Samsung.

But I think it defeats the purpose of RAID systems.. which is to make use of the cheap(er) magnetic disk drives with humongous capacity but poor reliability (comparatively speaking to flash based storage) and offset the deficency via data redundancy schemes.

The performance advantage from using flash based storage would be lost on the network bottleneck too.
