Hi,

I currently have 2 X 1 TB drives on a windows 7 machine as a server (way overkill)

Clarify these scenarios for me:

A)  1 TB Parity --- 1 TB data --->  Data drive dies =  all data safe still as it can be reconstructed from parity ?

B)  1 TB Parity --- 1 TB data --->    Parity drive dies = all data safe as it is all on the data drive still and just need to replace the parity and rerun check ?

C)  1 TB Parity --- 1 TB data --->    Both by some freak accident die simultaneously = I am totally screwed ?  But what are the chances of that ?

So with either A or B my data is safe as it is now using Syncback which keeps both drives identical?

Exactly... In fact, because unRAID uses "even parity" with only two disks (one parity one data) they will in fact be identical.

The chances of both disks dying at the same time are small, but they do exist.  Do NOT make the mistake of thinking that parity is all you need to protect your precious pictures, documents, etc..  All it would take is one fire/flood/lightning strike and both disks could fail at the same time.
