thumper
Okay so building my first server and would like the experienced to look for the obvious mistakes and any recommendations or help with better understanding of the interrelation between parts would be most welcome. So have a moderate budget (would love to be under $1000) so going with smaller drives for now (2GB). would be using this for data server (file access and backup), online data access (dropbox) and Plex server. Need a little backup for now, but would like expandability for later (anyone not fill their drives and then need more space?) Beginning with reused parts for processor, ram and SSD pulled from an HP with a BTX motherboard (dead tech). Any suggestions on the hard drives (eventually I will have 4-6 storage drives beyond the SSD and parity) as to speed (5400 vs 7200) Does the parity drive need to be 5TB or would 4TB be better/work fine? Will the Perc controller help with the added HDDs? The CPU maxes out at 32GB Ram, so I think 20 GB will get it done, especially running ubuntu with plex Thanks, Thumper Link to comment
