Okay so building my first server and would like the experienced to look for the obvious mistakes and any recommendations or help with better understanding of the interrelation between parts would be most welcome.

So have a moderate budget (would love to be under $1000) so going with smaller drives for now (2GB).

would be using this for data server (file access and backup), online data access (dropbox) and Plex server.  Need a little backup for now, but would like expandability for later (anyone not fill their drives and then need more space?)

Beginning with reused parts for processor, ram and SSD pulled from an HP with a BTX motherboard (dead tech).

Case- Cool master N400 ATX midtower   http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/n400/

Chipset- already have- Intel i5-2500 3.3GHz quad core sandybridge L1155/H2          https://ark.intel.com/products/52209/Intel-Core-i5-2500-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz

Motherboard- Asus LGA1155, built in 7ch sound, HDMI video and 3/6GHz connections   https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PRO/

RAM- already have-  4GB  2 cards 2GB DDR3-1333 240 Pin Dimms

RAM- 16GB 2 cards 8GB DR3-1333 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139975

PSU-  Corsair CX500 80+ Bronze  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027&Tpk=N82E16817139027

HD Controller-  Dell Perc H10

HD OS- already have- 120GB SSD from Kingston  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721107

HD Parity- toshiba 5GB 7200rpm 128 cache  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAEF26NW0522&Tpk=9SIAEF26NW0522

HD Storage-  2TB Seagate 7200 Firecuda https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178996&Tpk=N82E16822178996

HD Storage-  2TB Weetern Digital 5400 Blue https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822235013&Tpk=N82E16822235013

So not a super high horsepower system, but will it get the job done??

Any suggestions on the hard drives (eventually I will have 4-6 storage drives beyond the SSD and parity) as to speed (5400 vs 7200)

Does the parity drive need to be 5TB or would 4TB be better/work fine?

Will the Perc controller help with the added HDDs?

The CPU maxes out at 32GB Ram, so I think 20 GB will get it done, especially running ubuntu with plex

Thanks,
