Quick question, about backing up my USB drive..

Featured Replies

Just purchased unRAID, excited to use it once I get my key.  (building parity drive now)  I had a quick question.  Is it required to backup your USB thumb drive that holds the OS information?  Does it hold any info on the configuration of the drives and such?  So if my USB thumb drive were to die tomorrow, and I had to get a new one, what would be needed for me to get my array back up and running with the same config info and not losing data (other than a new license key)?

Thanks!

Make a copy of the "config" folder ans save it somewhere else.  Probably best to make the copy when the array is stopped, since that way, if you were to have a need to restore it to a different flash drive, you would not be faced with having to do a full parity check upon reboot.

Make a screen shot of the "devices" page too.  (easier to put the disks back in the right logical slots if you ever have to change out the motherboard/disk controllers..)
