Asus A8V Deluxe - please help

Featured Replies

EDIT - actually, scratch all that below.  After being told countless times that the A8V couldn't boot from USB I think it actually can.  I'm now getting some kind of "invalid partition table" error but providing the boot capabitity is there I can eventually get through that obstacle.

Longtime lurker and scourer of these forums as well as unRAID media server envier could really use just 3 minutes of quality assistance.

Okay, if I can repurpose this older AMD board for unRAID I can sway the wife into allowing me to build a new machine (and I get my unRAID server all at once).  It has a Marvel 1GB LAN and 4 total SATA ports with 2 on a VIA and 2 on a Promise.  I also have the 4 port PCI SATA card that is supported.

The issue is the lack of USB as a boot option and obviously unRAID's total reliance on USB boot to protect its software.  I've located this workaround and obtained all of the files yet I'm not sure 1) if this is the best way to do it or if there is any alternative 2) how to incorporate LINLD into the floppy or CD boot disc (do I need to just edit the autoexec on the Kicker disc or actually put the other LINLD files on there?). I know very little (read nothing) about Linux or Command line instructions but am willing to learn enough to get this done.  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=244.0

If someone can help me out or has suggestion on working with this MB, it would be great.  I have plenty of RAM and Processor power but the USB boot thing is an obstacle for me.
