new to unRAID, help with networking setup - 2 nics

Recommended Posts

Obligatory apology in advance to what I hope are absurdly simple questions.  I'm new to linux/unRAID as well as working with server hardware. I've been following guides, searching posts, etc but haven't been able to figure this part out.

Current setup:

unRAID 6.6.7 pro

I recently bought an r710.  It has dual L5640 and 192 GB ram (16GB sticks to keep it running higher than 800mhz).

Storage is 1 10TB parity, 2 10TB, 1 2TB drives.  22TB total

Cache is 2 SSD drives, 1TB each

using an H200 flashed to IT mode (that was fun)

Installed a few VMs, got plex docker up and running, moved some media over and it works great!

I have 2 network cards that have 4 gigabit jacks each.

Networking info:

I believe 1 nic is working fine with 4 showing up and showing connected.  I might not have it set up to actually USE the 4, but they show up as eth0 - eth3.  My other card looks like it's not showing up or not enabled or something.

When I look at the INFO link in unRAID it looks like this:

bond0: fault-tolerance (active-backup), mtu 1500
eth0: 1000 Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500
eth1: 1000 Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500
eth2: 1000 Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500
eth3: 1000 Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500
eth4: not connected
eth5: not connected
eth6: not connected
eth7: not connected

In the network settings area of unRAID I see that eth0 is using bonding to 1,2, and 3.  Under the settings for 1,2, and 3 it says "interface not configured" and they all have the same MAC address.  For eth4-7 it says "Interface is shutdown (inactive)" and they all have their own MAC.

eth0 settings:

Setup Questions:

1. Are my first 4 connections OK ?  If it's bonded correctly is it OK for it to show "interface not configured"?

2. What can I do with my configuration to use all 8 connections? I have more than 8 available on my switch (not a smart switch).

2.1 Provided the other NIC can get up and running can I just bond all 8?

Not looking to do anything advanced (for me) yet like VLANs... just want to utilize hardware I have.
