August 4, 20196 yr Hi, I've been using unRAID for just about a year now, I've been quite happy with it so far. I leave my machine on 24/7 and I recently added a UPS to my setup. I went through lots of hardware upgrade over the year. I can't remember when it was introduced as it wasn't too much of an issue until recently, but I am unable to do a clean shutdown: - With a monitor and keyboard connected to the machine, when I shutdown the machine, the screen goes into power saving mode (can't remember if unRAID used to display text or not) - The fans and computer keeps running, but I cannot access the machine through the web gui nor ssh - Machine will not shutdown cleanly, I have to hold down the power button until it turns off - If I boot to unRAID, never start the array and I try to shutdown, the issue persist - I though maybe this was a hardware configuration issue, and it maybe is, but I can do a clean shutdown from Arch / Debian live environment. I was just wondering how would I go about diagnosing such an issue? It looks like something is hanging. Motherboard is an Asrock Z87, I have an LSI SAS + HP SAS expander and a NVS 290.
August 5, 20196 yr Author Alright, it took most of my evening, but I've finally figured this one out. Here is what I've tried: - I fist went through all the messages in the "Dealing with unclean shutdowns" sticky thread, I tried the 'short power button press' but the machine wouldn't shut down: I was always going through an unclean shutdown - Even with enabling Syslog server to flashdrive, I wasn't getting any diagnostic zip file for the current date, they all dated from last year - A message in the thread mentioned deleting the networking config and recreating it. Since the last message to get displayed in my syslog was the interface going down, I figured I'd give this a try. But it didn't change anything - I finally gave 'Safe Mode' a try, and noticed that I could cleanly shutdown from that. Sweet! Might be a plugin or something, I figured - I remembered configuring AVC Override at somepoint, it was still my default option in the boot menu, so I tried a regular boot without AVC Override and could still shutdown clearly. - Finally, since I don't passthrough any pci-e cards to VM anymore, I removed the ACS Override as a boot option altogether and switched back to the default one This thread can be closed / locked. I figured I'd update it with my though process & resolution
