Hello,

 

I'm looking into ditching my Synology NAS (3x4 TB WD Red) in favor of new Hardware (19" Rack, CPU, Mainboard, RAM, m2 ssd for OS, ...)

 

Main goal - beside presenting storage to the network - should be:

 

  • PLEX Media Server (at the moment Data is on an 8 TB USB Drive, Seagate), would buy an IronWolf 12 TB to put it in the new system, should be used with DVR via a DVB-S2 Tuner in the future
  • sabnzbd
  • Unifi Controller (docker?)
  • VMs (occasionally Windows 10 Pro via RDP to test something)

 

What would be the "best choice" hardware to do that?

 

  • 19" Rack (min. 6 x 3.5")
  • processor (Intel?)
  • RAM (how much?)
  • M2 250 GB (PCIe) for the OS
  • PSU to power that

 

For a price tag around 1k US$

 

*Plex runs without problems at the moment at a DELL OptiPlex i5 7500t (Windows 10) and DirectStream to my LG (UHD) and transcode to my iPad (offline viewing)

 

any suggestions?
