Disk1 Read Errors

Featured Replies

Long time lurker first time poster.

Recently upgraded to 4.5.6. Also swapped out the main board in the machine to allow for an extra PCI slot and another 4 port sata controller.

Since then, Any drive located in the "Disk1" slot, the slot showing just under parity on the configuration screen, any disk in this slot reports multiple errors. I can take the same drive an move it to ANY other slot and it works fine.

I currently have the Disk1 port unused but will want to use it in the near future. Any advice on how to get this port up and running or where to start looking is greatly appreciated.

Admittedly did a brief search around the forums and don't recall seeing anything quite like this while lurking.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Try changing the sata port tied to Disk1 (move it to another spot on the board.)

If that doesn't help try swapping the sata cable out for another one.

It sounds like a hardware problem by what you are describing and you have ruled out it being a Hard Drive issue by swapping drives.

You are confusing me by referring to Disk1.

On unRAID, disk1 is a logical slot in the array and you can use the "devices" page to assign ANY physical device to it.  I don't think you are referring to that "disk1"

It sounds as if you are referring to the first physical slot in your array.  Any disk placed there has errors, and the same disk in a different physical slot is OK.

Am I correct in that you are referring to a physical slot where errors occur?

If so, then the odds are the SATA cable, drive-cage-back-plane, or POWER connections to that physical slot are the issue.

It could also be the disk controller port you have cabled to that physical slot.

He started the "Disk1" thing Joe, I was just sticking with it.

Joe and I agree, Hardware issue it appears.

Swap the cable out for that "Slot" then try another "Port" on the board.
