I am trying to use an external ssd with usb 3.1 but when I launch the VM(windows10 or Ubuntu 18.04) after attaching this usb device, the vm fails with

error. The same device works if plugged in into the usb 3.0 port. 

 

Unraid OS: Version: 6.7.2

    For anyone else, who come across this post:

    I was able to get the usb 3.1 ssd working by directly passing the usb 3.1 controller(using vfio-pci.ids) to the vm rather then selecting the usb device.
