USB Help!!!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have a windows 8 VM that I was using for some light gaming. GPU, keyboard and mouse passed through to the VM through the edit tab. Now I've been having a spot of trouble today and hoping to get some help.

I shutdown my VM, unchecked the mouse and keyboard box and saved. I then removed the devices as I needed to use them for something else. Once Finished I brought them back to the machine and plugged them in, rechecked them in the edit on the vm and started it up. Neither device is working now. Nor is any keyboard or mouse working now in any usb port on the machine. The ports are working as I ctrl-alt-deleted on the keyboard and it reset the computer and unraid does see all USB devices plugged in.

Also note I have a download ubuntu vm that I play around with, the keyboard works in that VM (sluggish) and the mouse to some extent (can't see the cursor).

Now back on the windows vm. I tried plugging in an empty flash drive checking that and the kb/m device boxes and loading up. Mouse now works, system sees the flash drive but the keyboard doesn't work.

For kicks I plugged in 2 different mice and 3 different keyboards at the same time, checked all their boxes in the VM settings and started the VM. Every device is working. Power down the VM unchecked everything but 1 mouse and keyboard, power back up. Seems like this will work when there are 2 keyboard plugged in and a mouse.

Downloaded the plugin "hotplug" and using that I can get all the devices to work. But I feel there is something else wrong as the devices wont work from the vm edit anymore like they used to. I installed a fresh win 10 VM , same problem happens mouse works, but if you try to load up the VM with just the keyboard it has boot issues. I feel like there is a bad config somewhere in unraid but I have no idea where to start checking. Any help would be appreciated as I am still quite new to unraid.

The hotplug plugin allows you to plug and unplug devices without the need to even shut down the VM.

So you are better off just use the plugin instead of using the workaround of editing the template. Nobody does that anymore.

Automatic gearbox works. There's no need to force a manual gearbox on it and wonder why the clutch has a problem. :)

Sure I can use hotplug plugin, but there seems to be a deeper problem here that I would like to troubleshoot.

I did have system log open last night while troubleshooting and I noticed this was in red.
