Validate Part Picker

Hi guys

I hope this is okay to ask and it becomes helpful for others. I just wanted to validate my choice of parts with the community.

I've always been a fan of Intel but these past few years AMD is an obvious contender so thought I'd give it a bash again after avoiding them for so long.

Open to suggestions/criticism on all of this

CPU

Choice: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (14nm) 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor

Why: Trying an AMD this time around, slightly cheaper than Intel. £90~

MOBO

Choice: Asus PRIME X370-PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard

Why: Plenty of SATA slots, expansion and a premium board. £115~

RAM

Choice: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4-2666 Memory

Why: Fair price, fair quality, I've used Vengeance in the past and had zero issues, not that I'd expect anything different from most brands. Never had any issues with Kingston Budget either but I guess my vanity won't let me buy that these days lol.

CPU COOLER

Choice: RAIJINTEK JUNO-X 52 CFM CPU Cooler

Why: Temporary choice... I'm not expecting to have a problem with temps, stock cooler is probably enough but this is slightly better for £15~

I would probably switch to a Noctua in future if I need to but I couldn't be bothered to work out sizes, bracket requirements etc right now so I'd probably say this was the only thing on this list that wasn't up for debate since it's not of concern to me at this time.

PSU

I'm really hoping that I don't have to replace my current Cooler Master 1000W Silent Pro 80 Plus Bronze. But if I did, I'd probably go with Corsair CP-9020074-UK HX1000i 1000 W 80 Plus Platinum Certified 140 mm Fan Thermally Controlled Power Supply Unit - Black £200~

What is your budget?

£300~ (unless I need a new PSU, then £500~)

(Add £100 movement budget into this)

How many drives do you want your server to be able to support and how much capacity do you need?

Drives are all accounted for. I have 2x 6TB Parity, 2x 250GB SSD Cache, 2x 4TB Data with a vision of probably adding maybe 2 more 4TB in the future if needed.

Is expandability important to you?  If so, what's your long term goal?

My array has been alive for 18 months, it's gone through a couple of upgrades but this is the first time I'll be buying the guts rather than just new drives. This is now at my long-term goal.

Are you interested in running any unRAID Add Ons (see here)?  If so, which ones?  Be specific.

Plex mainly, might spin up a docker for some web server potentially but nothing drastic planned at this stage.

Do you want to run green/low power drives or faster 7200 rpm drives?  If you don't have a specific need for 7200 rpm drives, then choose green drives.

I have a problem trusting green drives for some reason. All my drives will be NAS suitable. They are 5900rpm which is fine. Again they have all been bought anyway.
