I just started testing unRaid to get a feel for it. I currently only have 2 IDE drives insatlled for testing. When I looked at the web management it showed both drives spun down (blinking green). I began to transfer some files to disk1 and I expected disk 2 to stay spun down. Is this correct? When I did this both drives spun up. Is this because they are IDE drives or should this be normal?

Search for spinup groups to learn why.

 

Disable "spinup groups" to revert to not spinning up both on the same controller, but understand why.

I will read up on spinup groups. Once the 2tb drives drop to $80 and under Ill build a true unRaid server.
