September 12, 200718 yr I'm at a total loss. I just put together the hardware for an Unraid system. Got the bios set up and the The flash drive program. When I try to boot up, it says I have no bootable source. I think the bios is set up right because when it as me to insert a bootable device and press a key, the flash drive would light up like its being read. I followed the instructions to the T, but I still can't get it to work. FYI, the Bios recognize my flash drive and I moved it up to first boot. Any suggestions?
September 12, 200718 yr We probably need more info (like brand/model of motherboard), but ... For some boards, setting it as the first boot is not enough, you have to specific how the USB should be treated. On some Asus boards, you need to designate it as FDD. Also, make sure the key is labeled probably as "unraid" (going from memory, not sure if capitalization counts but it's in the instructions). Try to find the wiki, there's more info there. Bill
September 13, 200718 yr Author Thanks. I got the base intel board. Intel BOXDG965WHMKR. I'm using a sandisk cruzer 2gb flash disk. I tried all combinations of bios settings, still no luck. I'm going to try and make a ms-dos boot usb and see if that work. If it does, then I can conclude that my bios setting is working.
September 13, 200718 yr That's a good start to isolate if it's the mobo/bios or flash. If you've followed the instructions then it simply might be the bio settings of selecting the Boot Sequence and Boot device. I recall my mobo had a few selections of USB-HDD, USB-FDD and USB-CDROM. I went through them all and would boot from the USB-CDROM with mine if i recall correctly but not others. Also my USB port, I have two on my motherboard and the lower USB port does not boot but my upper USB port boots just fine. Looks like you have 4 + 2 USB ports on your motherboard so play w/ those if the above bio setting doesn't do it. I had given up with my mobo at one point and was going to order a different brand and tried moving the USB stick up to the other port and was surprised that made a difference. I would start w/ the usb port right below the NIC port but i doubt this will be the case of all mobo's and simply could have been an isolated case for my brand but still an option to look at if the above bio settings fails. If you have another PC, you could try the Flash stick off that to ensure it's not the flash stick. Good Luck, M
September 13, 200718 yr Author That's for all your help. Finally got it to boot up. Turns out it was the bios setting. Intel doesn't make it clear, but they had a "USB emulation" section and after fooling with that, I finally got it to work. Now I'm fooling with the network itself. Does windows automatically detect the server? Also on the main page with all the hard drive, is the Parity light always red? The drive is working as it's synching right now, but the light is red. Forgive me for all these noob questions, but this is my first foray into a server. Final stupid question for now. How do I record data on these disk? Do I have to do anything special with My Network space to get the HTPC to recognize the server?
September 13, 200718 yr That light may stay red until the sync is done. I've never noticed it.... just waited till the sync was done.
