September 20, 200718 yr Hello, I've been reading around here after learning about unRAID from AVSForums. I'm currently building my server and was wondering about the number of hard drives supported. On the information page about unRAID server pro it says it supports up to 14 hard drives. Yet here I see users talking about 16 hard drives. Also, the MD-1500 builds have 15 removable trays and it sounds like all 15 could be populated and talks about a 16th on the e-sata port. Is this a different version that supports more than the 14 stated on the pro version? Is this version only available if you purchase the MD-1500? I'm just curious before I buy the parts I'm lacking for my server as at this point there is not much price difference between the two. Thanks.

The information page describing unRaid Pro is out-of-date and incorrect. Recently, unRaid Pro was changed to handle as many as 16 drives (parity + 15 data drives) This was upped from the original 14, specifically to allow full use of the number of ports/trays in the MD-1500 hardware. Joe L. PS. You might also find old posts in this forum describing 12 drives as the limit. That was the original limit in early versions of unRaid, before the max was upped to 14 when SATA support was added.
September 21, 200718 yr Author Thanks. That answered my questions. The only thing I didn't read on here looking for the answer was the change logs. Edit: Just ordered the parts. I'll play around with the basic version and get everything set up then pick up the pro version.
