January 26, 201115 yr How do I set this thing to not go over the 120 GB mark while I'm uploading to the cache drive? I see the min free space section but shouldn't that just be 0? confused Min free is the amount of space that must be free on the disk before it will begin to copy data to that drive. It's setting depends on the type of data you plan to copy. For example, if you are copying DVD images to your server, and find that 8G is about the largest image you'd ever copy, you could set min free to 8,000,000 (skip the commas when you enter it). That is 8 million K = 8G. When you are copying a file, if there is less that 8G, it will not copy it there and go looking for another location. If you are copying something larger, say BluRay rips that can be as large as 50G, you'd need to set it higher (50,000,000) to guarantee not to run out of space. The reason for this is that the copy operation seldom broadcasts the size of the file it is copying. Instead it just creates a mimimal size file and keeps growing it until it is completely copied. With no idea of how big the file is going to be, unRAID will start to create it, and then if it exceeds the free space, the copy will fail.
January 26, 201115 yr If you're going to be copying a lot of data to your array, I would suggest turning OFF the cache drive for those shares while you copy. If I am not mistaken, the "min free space" is only for actual disks in the array and does not apply to the cache drive. By default, the cache drive is emptied every morning at 3:45am by the "mover" script.. If you're copying 120GB to your array (and to your cache drive if this is enabled), unless you manually run the mover script to clear your cache drive, it will continue to fill up.
